The government on Tuesday March 21st proposed to make Aadhar card mandatory for filing IT Return and also for applying permanent account number(PAN card).
The proposal was made through an amendment to the Finance Bill 2017 moved by Finance Minister Arun Jaitley in the Lok Sabha.
Recently, the I-T department had announced a mobile app for paying taxes and tracking of refunds. It had also said it was considering issuing PANs on real time basis using Aadhaar biometric.
Income tax payers would have to declare their Aadhaar number in all tax returns filed from 1st of July. They would also have to link the Aadhaar number with the PAN before the July deadline. According to the bill, PAN cards that are not linked will be deemed invalid.
